Breast diagnostics

For women over the age of 40, mammography breast screening is recommended every two years as a preventive measure. This screening is intended for women who have no complaints or symptoms and have not participated in screening within the past year. Screening can also be performed in case of breast implants.
Screening mammography is performed with 4 mammographic images, a physical examination by a qualified radiographer, and double medical evaluation. (The report will be uploaded to the EESZT system within 72 working hours.)
The breasts can also be examined with conventional imaging methods after plastic surgery. Women with breast implants are examined using a special positioning technique. The implant is not damaged by either the gentle compression applied during the mammography examination or the ionizing X-ray radiation.

Mammography screening cannot be performed during pregnancy and breastfeeding!

Screening mammography procedure:

• Before the mammography screening, the qualified radiographer records the patient's personal data, previous medical history, and family history.
• First, the breasts are examined by palpation, followed by imaging of the breast tissue.
• The images taken during mammography screening are independently evaluated by two specialists with a complex breast diagnostic license. If neither of them identifies any abnormal findings, no further examination is required.
• If our doctors identify any findings requiring clarification based on the evaluated images, additional images and supplementary examinations (e.g. breast ultrasound, aspiration cytology, core biopsy, stereotactic vacuum-assisted biopsy) may be required. The affected patient will be notified by email.
• The additional examinations are not included in the price of breast screening.

For the purpose of mandatory data reporting to the EESZT system as required by law, providing a TAJ number is a prerequisite for starting care for all Hungarian citizens. In order to protect your personal data, reliable identification of your personal information is also required. In the case of foreign citizens who do not have a TAJ number, the number of the foreign travel document or the European Health Insurance Card number will be recorded.
